Did you know that even if you aren’t a member of the Seminary community, there are free library resources available to you? In this podcast, I’ll show you how to access preaching resources…from anywhere in the world. You’ll find them under Resources and Services in the navigation bar near the top of the screen. To get started, let’s click on Preaching.

So, let’s take a moment to get oriented. Do you see the tabs near the top of the page? They will allow you to select a specific content area. We’ve chosen to focus on Preaching, but by clicking on another tab, you can explore other areas, like Biblical Studies. The Home tab has a list of all of the free resources in this guide. Now let’s go ahead and explore the preaching resources by clicking on the Preaching tab.

The first link takes us to The African American Lectionary. It’s mostly aimed at three groups: preachers; people who need African American cultural material to preach and teach; and people who want information on designing worship services. The current lectionary team includes a number of Princeton Seminary grads. Check out the links on the right hand side of the page, including the cultural resources and the FAQ section.

Okay; now let’s go back to the LibGuide and look at the other resources in the Preaching section, In the Company of Preachers, produced by Luther Seminary, is a quarterly audio resource dedicated to cultivating the art of preaching. Did you know that you can download the introductory edition for free?

MinistryMatters, developed by the United Methodist Publishing House of Nashville, TN, is filled with resources for church leaders. You’ll find articles, blog posts, and audio and video recordings. Many of the resources are free. But some may require logging in. If you click on the “preach” tab, you can search and browse a wide variety of materials.

Have you used The Text This Week? It is a popular site that features resources for study, teaching and preaching based on the 3-year Revised Common Lectionary cycle. The site is regularly monitored to ensure that you receive useful, quality material. And, if you’re a PTS alum with a PTS network ID, you’ll be able to access full text articles provided by ATLAS for Alum.

Finally, there’s WorkingPreacher, managed by the Center for Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary. This site provides exegetical material geared to the weekly lectionary and to other biblical material; resources and insight regarding the craft of preaching; and viewpoints and commentary on contemporary culture.

Take advantage of the resources in this guide! If you have suggestions about other resources that could be added, please contact the reference librarian using the link in the “About This Guide” box on the left.
