Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May 1, 2023

Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with this curated bibliography of print books and e-books from the Wright Library collection.

In it, you will also find related content, from recorded lectures and conferences, to a special issue of Theology Today, to the Center for Asian American Christianity at Princeton Theological Seminary and more.

The piece pictured in the graphic is an original framed calligraphy by Toyohiko Kagawa (1888-1960), the Japanese founder of the Friends of Jesus Movement. His own (loose) translation is on the back and mentions Francis Xavier, the first Jesuit missionary to enter Japan.

Although Kagawa was not an American, visiting researchers to Wright Library have been interested in him recently and so was top of mind when I asked for a photo from the Special Collections and Archives to use in highlighting the curated bibliography for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

In addition to a few scrolls and instances of calligraphy, Wright Library has one box of archival material relating to Kagawa (mostly consisting of biographical material from his time at Princeton Theological Seminary).
