Cataloging and Christian Education Librarian, Sarita Ravinder

May 2, 2019

Sarita Ravinder, Cataloging and Christian Education Librarian, retired this year after 38 years of loyal service to Princeton Theological Seminary.

"My biggest joy being the Christian Education Librarian [was] to reach out to the Christian educators and pastors with the programs of the church, VBS training and working with families and children of the Seminary."

After completing an MA in Indian Philosophy at Osmania University in India and teaching Christian Education at a Bible college for a couple of years, Sarita began working in the library here on August 24, 1981 as Cataloging Assistant. She later became Serials Assistant and, in November 1993, the Christian Education Librarian in charge of the Charles G. Reigner Collection, also known as the Reigner Reading Room (originally located in Roberts Hall and later Tennent Hall). She completed two ThMs (1981, 1985) and an MLS (1993).

In his remarks at her retirement celebration, Archivist and Curator of Special Collections, Kenneth W. Henke noted "[Sarita] was especially known, not only for her knowledge of the [Reigner] collection which she was able to share with those who came in looking for materials, but also for special programs and workshops which she ran at various times of the year and for inter-generational family programs which she put together for Princeton Seminary student families and others. Her knowledge of the materials and quiet commitment were appreciated by many over all those years."

(Note that cataloging came back into her life when her role later expanded into Cataloging and Christian Education Librarian.)

We will miss her greatly. Best wishes to you in retirement, Sarita!
