E-books are 50 years old (!)

Jul 14, 2021

It's hard to believe, but it's true: eBooks have been with us for half a century.

"Fifty years ago, on July 4, 1971, Michael S. Hart, a computer scientist at the University of Illinois, was given an operator’s account to the University’s Xerox Sigma V mainframe and thereby access to the ARPANET. ... [He ended up launching] what was to become Project Gutenberg," Todd A. Carpenter ("Happy Birthday to the eBook!," July 13, 2021, https://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2021/07/13/happy-birthday-to-the-ebook/).

From the Theological Commons to HathiTrust to all the millions you'll find in the other research databases, eBooks are plentiful today!
