With the newly launched version of the OED website, you can:
- Use the advanced search to learn more about specific words, phrases, or major figures in your studies by filtering according to certain criteria.
- Take advantage of the suggested onward searches to discover results matching specific queries.
- Explore the entry factsheet to discover high-level information about an entry, such as word usage over time, etymology, and more.
"The Oxford English Dictionary is a comprehensive historical dictionary that aims to document the English language in all its varieties from the eleventh century to the present day. OED entries describe the origin, meaning, and history of each word by analyzing evidence of usage from the earliest known to the most recent."
This year, almost 100 years since the first print edition of the OED published, marks the beginning of a new era for this significant reference work.
