Library Catalog Migration Project (Summer 2020)

Summary

In the summer of 2020, the Library migrated its library catalog to Ex Libris/Innovative Sierra from Ex Libris Voyager (in use since 1999). We will continue to deliver essential library services with this new catalog, and look forward to providing you with some important new features. The Sierra catalog will also give library staff an updated and improved back-end system for maintaining the library collection and providing essential library services to patrons.

This page will be updated as the project progresses to keep you informed about the transition, as well as to introduce new features and tools as they are rolled out iteratively throughout the academic year 2020-21.

You can contact us anytime to ask questions or share your thoughts.

What is a library catalog?

Updates

  • Login to the library catalog to save preferred searches, see what you have checked out, when it's due back, and more.
  • Opt-in to receive SMS Alerts (text messages) about your library checkouts and renew materials via text!
  • Download the MyLibrary! mobile app from Google Play or the Apple Store and select Princeton Theological Seminary as your library to search the catalog on the go. Many other libraries also use the MyLibrary! app, so you can easily search other library catalogs, too. Just look them up inside the app. Note: The guest borrower login involves a PIN, which is also required for all borrowers logging in via the MyLibrary! mobile app. Establishing your PIN: The first time you login, enter your name (Last Name) and barcode (number on your ID card) and leave the PIN field blank. When you submit the form, you will be prompted to create a PIN.
  • Digitized items that may be found in the library catalog include materials from HathiTrust.

What do I need to know now?

  • The new Sierra library catalog will go live on July 1, 2020.
  • Project updates and descriptions of new tools as they are introduced will be posted here in the coming months.

How will this impact my research in the library catalog?

  • Your links (URLs) to the previous library catalog will also work for the new library catalog: https://catalog.ptsem.edu.
  • The Sierra library catalog search will provide an easy-to-use search experience for you to find library material, including search limiters and scoping, saved searching options, and other features. Sierra search tutorials will be available in this space soon.
  • The catalog is responsively designed, adjusting to smaller screens and windows; mobile devices, phones, etc. will be directed to a kind of mobile version of the catalog (AirPAC).
  • Additionally, the MyLibrary! mobile app will provide you easy access to your library account.
  • Syndetics Unbound is a catalog enrichment tool that will enrich your search and discovery experience in both the new Sierra library catalog and in the Summon discovery tool. Featured book covers, browse shelf, summaries, professional reviews, tags, and other functionality will be available.
